About
I don't recall my exact age at the time, but I was young and one Christmas I was gifted with a camera and it was cool! It was one of the classic disc film cameras that were all the rage at the time - something along the lines of this. They had the simplest film change out you could hope for, and off I went snapping this and that.
Of course now in the day and age of digital cameras, even a cell phone has better quality than the introductory cameras back then, but it set me on the course of wanting to document my travels from beginning to end, and so my photographic interest began.
I'm sure there were other film cameras along the way, but finally, just before a trip to Australia, I blew the budget and invested in a Canon PowerShot S70 digital point and shoot. It was awesome - it still is awesome, and I continue to use it as my pocket camera. The freedom of being able to take a picture, see it immediately and know whether or not it had come out right was outstanding. On that trip, I took a multi-shot panoramic of Hobart from Mount Wellington on the most perfect day you could ask for, which I pieced together and got printed - it still hangs on my wall today.
From there, the desire to have more flexibility and control set me down the path of the DSLR and the lenses that go with them. It's not a cheap exercise, but I've been fortunate enough, over time, to be able to piece together a variety of equipment that provides me with the ability to push my photographic knowledge and techniques. And it must be said, I don't know it all. I don't know even the half of it. I've not been trained on composition techniques, I know a little of ISO, aperture and shutter speed. I still get it wrong on occasion, but I head out, set up and shoot some stuff and see how it works out. Sometimes the shots come out great. Sometimes the shots come out terrible, but sitting surrounded by nature... There could be worse things.
So, this website is here to provide a vehicle to showcase what I have photographed, and what I will photograph, to friends, family and anyone else that wants to swing by and check it out. I hope you enjoy and that at least occasionally it brightens your day.
