Blog

I'm certainly no writer, but this blog will be regularly updated with interesting news, camera & photography tricks, tips and techniques, cool images and recent photos of my own and others from around the web. And there'll be some tales of life in Western North Carolina, snapping the odd, funny, or just downright "don't see that every day". In The Wild: Someone's A Long Way From Home

We've had a new visitor to the yard that's pretty rare to this immediate area. Click through to check out the pictures and find out more about this creature.

In The Wild: Our Gray Fox Makes A Return

Our resident gray fox is back, and we've caught sight of it swinging by in the evenings. But, upon returning from a quick trip out, we found it having an afternoon snack out in the yard. A truly beautiful animal. Click through to check out the pictures.

In The Wild: An Eastern Box Turtle Takes A Stroll

I was headed out to see a client just recently, jumped in the car and started off, only to slam on the brakes halfway down the driveway. Rather unexpectedly, there was an Eastern Box Turtle making its way across my path and I had to do some funky double foot pedal maneuvers to reverse so as to not run over it. Click through for more info on this turtle and -- of course -- some pictures.

In The Wild: Bearing It All

It's not everyday that you roll out of bed, stick your head out on the porch to see the world and the weather, and find yourself staring at a black bear that's decided to camp out in your back yard. Today, however, was one of those days. Click through to see pictures and some video of what awaited us when awoke this morning, including our bear bearing all.

In The Wild: The Mountain-Laurel Is Blooming

It's a beautiful time of year in the mountains of Western North Carolina. Days are warm, nights are cool and everything is turning green. And, to top it off, the mountain-laurel is starting to bloom. And it's everywhere. Click through to check the different stages from bud to bloom.

In The Wild: Our Lilies Are Being Eaten

Something has rampaged through our lily bed, chomping off the top of the lilies, to which we say "Grrr..." So we set up the trusty trail cam to try and catch the culprit in the act. We have some suspects and some pretty damning evidence of who's responsible. And we have questions for you too. Click through to find out more.

In The Wild: Someone Thinks They're Sly

So there we are, another long day of work behind us and we're just finishing up our dinner when we look out into the yard and exclaim, "What the heck is that?" After some fumbling around, a bit more scrambling and several "where's my camera?" later, we capture it on film in pixels. This post is all about our new visitor of late. Click through to find out more.

In The Wild: Under The Water

South Carolina Aquarium, Charleston, SCOk, technically speaking, the In The Wild crew weren't underwater, but a bunch of other stuff was. We've been on another trip south to the Charleston, SC, area. It's always a fun time, and on this occasion we took the opportunity to check out the South Carolina Aquarium in downtown Charleston. There were some cool creatures and some cool pictures as a result - see what we found there by clicking through.
