There's a bunch of birds that swing by our yard on a daily basis - over time we'll get to document them all I hope. But, in the meantime we had a newcomer drop by just the other day, and that's always an exciting time 'round these parts. So, out I went armed to the teeth with the digital camera and a determination to capture the new guy in pixels... And that I did.
It took me a while to find out what it was, despite its distinctive markings. I searched for 'yellow face bird', 'yellow and black bird', 'yellow face with black balaclava bird', 'green bird yellow face', 'green bird yellow black head', 'green bird gold face black' and almost every other combination of things you could think of. I'm not sure what combination finally did it for me on the 6th page of Google results, but we had been graced with a Hooded Warbler - and a very pretty bird it is too.
Check him/her out:
